Dark, Home, Fat Dog Sleeping

In the light I am always at home
Seeing, sensing, making things my own.
The misplaced chair, turned, so as to defy any purpose,
I can move about, out of my way, as I roam.
But in the darkness I am blind.
See that dog? His nose I have not (nor the owl's eyes).
What the old one always looks for he cannot find,
As he cannot find it in the light,
But his home is gone, while mine is here,
(still in sight,
if we drive down the unpaved road, looking behind us.)
But in the darkness only one place is home,
Because you know where the fat sleeping dog
pretends to sleep
The unwanted gift, that cheap vase
(which you cannot miss because they will)
Sits beside the family picture
(You know why you aren't smiling, why you made that face)
And you won't bump them off the sill,
Because in the darkness, this is home.

That's awesome!

I too live in the basement. It is dark and I use my sonar to find my around. My parents get worried since I'm yelling at inanimate objects all the time.
